Broke (Movie) – Film & Arts Mackay
When: Friday, 4th November 2016
Where: Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Ooralea | Mackay
Ben Kelly (Steve Le Marquand, Beneath Hill 60) is a man in the grip of crisis. A former rugby legend, with a Daly M Medal to his name, he has fallen from grace, victim to the lure of gambling. Turning to a life of petty crime to feed his addiction, Ben is rescued by Cec (AFI Award winner Max Cullen, Spider & Rose) who believes the sports star still has more to give, encouraging him to apply the spirit he once displayed on the field to his personal life. Invited to coach a junior team in need of direction, Ben is tasked with putting back into the game what he himself once got out of it.
An inspiring sports drama, also featuring Brendan Cowell (Noise), Claire Van Der Boom (Red Hill), Steve Bastoni (The Water Diviner), Pippa Grandison (Muriel’s Wedding), Justin Rosniak (Animal Kingdom) and William Zappa (Mad Max 2), BROKE is a raw tale of resilience and the power of redemption.
Tickets are available at the door for $13 (or $9 for students and FAM members) and includes a complimentary drink and supper after the movie. Everyone is welcome.
