The Burdekin Cultural Fair feat. First Fire will celebrate the diversity of the region with a number of cultures coming together to provide different food, activities and entertainment for everyone to enjoy at the Home Hill Showgrounds on Friday, 26 May 2023!
A highlight of the event includes the lighting of the First Fire for the 2023 sugar cane crushing season! The Burdekin is one of the only regions in the world that still burns the sugar cane paddock before harvesting. Hear the roar and crackling of the crop burning, smell the sweet essence of burning sugar and feel the heat of the fire as it tears through the paddock

The first fire of the 2023 sugar cane harvest will start at 7pm – make sure you are there!
Celebrate all the cultures of the Burdekin with live cultural performances on the Sweet Stage from 6.30pm! Dance and sing along with the Highland dancers, Belly dancers, Cuban Salsa dancers, Tango dancers and Greek dancers!
Food and beverages will be available for purchase.
Catch Day Break on the Sweet Stage from 8.50pm.
Licenced bar open from 6pm – taste the Burdekin’s newest Burdekin Rum!
Plenty of kids entertainment including free face painting, henna tattooing, hair braiding and arts and crafts.
